Arts & Environment- Making Our Church Beautiful

When you enter our church during Christmas or Easter the transformation of the space can be overwhelming.  The wonderful work that makes this happen is done by our Arts & Environment team, who does much more than decorate for these major celebrations.  In addition to decorating, they also serve as stewards of flowers and candles throughout our church space. This can be particularly demanding when there are lots of flowers in the church to keep them fresh and cleaned up.  

Our church space makes decorating a bit more challenging.  We have quite a large church that does not have a lot of permanent decorations and artwork (many more blank walls) than you might find in other large churches.  So the team has to provide a lot for major celebrations- lots of long material that needs to be ironed and hung using a lift. 

The team is also attentive to the liturgical seasons and particular celebrations. During Holy Week they have to change the look almost every day (while also preparing for Easter).  Different seasons and celebrations have different liturgical colors and general feel.  Advent and Lent are purple and are meant to be subdued in decoration with little or no flowers being used.  We spend most of the year with green as the color of ordinary time, and many special feasts use white or red as the color.  

The team stays open to new possibilities (recently added Christmas Trees with Crismon decorations, an Easter Flower Cross, new banners, etc…)  and continues to refine their design and plans.  If you would be interested in helping with this group of people and assisting when you can contact their ministry leader Jennie Hayes at [email protected].  Their ministry is the first means we have to communicate the mystery of our liturgical celebrations.  We are thankful for their faithful work that makes our space more beautiful and inviting.

Arte y medio ambiente: Cómo embellecer nuestra iglesia

Cuando ingresas a nuestra iglesia durante Navidad o Pascua, la transformación del espacio puede ser abrumadora. El maravilloso trabajo que hace que esto suceda lo realiza nuestro equipo de Artes y Medio Ambiente, que hace mucho más que decorar para estas celebraciones importantes. Además de decorar, también sirven como administradores de flores y velas en todo el espacio de nuestra iglesia. Esto puede ser particularmente exigente cuando hay muchas flores en la iglesia para mantenerlas frescas y limpias.

Nuestro espacio de iglesia hace que la decoración sea un poco más desafiante. Tenemos una iglesia bastante grande que no tiene muchas decoraciones y obras de arte permanentes (muchas más paredes en blanco) de las que puede encontrar en otras iglesias grandes. Por lo tanto, el equipo tiene que proporcionar mucho para las celebraciones importantes: mucho material largo que necesita plancharse y colgarse con un elevador.

El equipo también está atento a las estaciones litúrgicas y las celebraciones particulares. Durante la Semana Santa, tienen que cambiar el aspecto casi todos los días (mientras también se preparan para la Pascua). Las diferentes estaciones y celebraciones tienen diferentes colores litúrgicos y una sensación general. El Adviento y la Cuaresma son de color morado y se supone que deben ser discretos en cuanto a la decoración, con pocas o ninguna flor. Pasamos la mayor parte del año con el verde como color del tiempo ordinario, y muchas fiestas especiales usan el blanco o el rojo como color.

El equipo se mantiene abierto a nuevas posibilidades (recientemente agregó árboles de Navidad con decoraciones Crismon, una cruz de flores de Pascua, nuevos estandartes, etc.) y continúa refinando su diseño y planes.
