B.Committee Agenda
MQHR Goals and Objectives 5a): Engage parishioners in mission and service programs to people that live in Lexington:
Our Hat Ministry for cancer patients has grown to 24 members (Catholics and other denominations) who have provided 300 hats to clinics and hospitals here in Lexington. Each hat is blessed and includes a card with a Scripture verse and prayer for each recipient (Catholics and other denominations). It has been well received in the community.
MQHR Goals and Objectives 5e): Engage people in evangelization outreach programs and events that target non-practicing Catholics as well as the unchurched.
MQHR has teamed with CTK in offering “ Catholics Returning Home” on an alternating basis. MQ offered the six-week program in the fall of 2016: 6 people attended and 5 completed the program. Topics include Stories of Faith, Vatican II, Mass and the Eucharist, Reconciliation and Sin, the Nicene Creed and Precepts of the Church. MQHR will offer another session beginning April 17 th, 2017.
Seventeen members from our parish attended an informational meeting in 2016; 10 of those who attended agreed to serve on team ( 4-5 at a time on a rotating basis).
MQHR Goals and Objectives 5c) Adopt a sister parish in our diocese.
While not a parish, we have made contact with the St. Vincent Mission in David, KY to meet with ladies in the mountains and help them start a hat ministry for cancer patients in their communities. The idea was well received by the Director of the Mission and plans are being formulated.
The Committee has published a brochure entitled “Everyday Evangelization” which was handed out after Masses in December 2015, displayed in the Church, and offered at fish fries.
The Committee organized and prepared a Thanksgiving meal (2015) for our Congolese refugees with the help of attendees at the 8:15 am Mass.
Committee members have attended the ACTS retreat. Budget request for the coming year includes dollars to provide small monetary assistance ($10 for 60 people for 4 retreats) to those wishing to attend in the fall and spring.
Individual Committee members are or have been involved in various ministries in the parish and diocese: lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, CRHP, BUILD, Magnificat, Diocesan Evangelization Commission.
