When the United States flag (Old Glory) becomes worn, torn, faded or badly
soiled, it is time to replace it with a new flag, and the old flag should be
retired; with all the dignity and respect befitting our nation's flag. The traditional method of retirement is to incinerate the flag, but this does not mean that one should simply drop the entire flag (intact) into a fire.
Scouts BSA, Troop 282 and Troop 8, Chartered by Mary Queen of the Holy
Rosary will be preforming a US flag retirement ceremony on Saturday, September 24, at 10:00am.
The ceremony will be at Mary Queen near the picnic tables next to the playground. If you or anyone you know has an old flag that would like to be retired you can bring it to the ceremony or contact John Tomecek at 859-433-5646 or drop it off at the church office. All are welcome to come to the ceremony. The ceremony lasts about 45 minutes.
If you have a new flag and wish to bring to the retirement ceremony, we will be doing flag blessing only if requested. Please contact me if you are bringing a new flag.
