Diocese To Ordain Danny Taylor to Priesthood, Ronald Sagum to Transitional Diaconate, Six Men to the Permanent Diaconate
LEXINGTON — The Catholic Diocese of Lexington will ordain a new priest, a transitional deacon and six permanent deacons during the month of June. Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv., of Lexington will perform the ordinations at Masses celebrated at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington.
“What unites these men is a spirit of service to the Gospel,” said Bishop Stowe. “The Church in central and eastern Kentucky is blessed to have men answering God’s call, especially during this difficult time, to live their vocations through ministry to God’s people, especially the poor and all people on the peripheries.”
On June 13, Deacon Danny Taylor, 30, will be ordained a Catholic priest. Taylor, a native of Lexington, is profiled in the June issue of Cross Roads, the magazine of the Catholic Diocese of Lexington.
On June 6, diocesan seminarian Ronald Sagum, a native of the Philippines, will be ordained to the transitional diaconate, the penultimate step before being ordained a priest. It is at this stage that an ordinand makes a promise of celibacy to his bishop. Sagum, 42, will be ordained alongside six men entering the permanent diaconate. An ancient sacramental ministry restored by the Catholic Church in the late 1960s, the permanent diaconate is open to married men.
The six men being ordained permanent deacons are Bob Amato (wife Carmen) of Good Shepherd in Frankfort; David James (wife Mary Jo) of St. Luke in Nicholasville; Lane Marshall (wife Mary) of Annunciation in Paris; Ed Parsons (wife Hye Kyong) of Pax Christi in Lexington; Kurt Sosa (wife Angela) of Sacred Heart in Corbin; and Jeremy Watson (wife Amy) of Sts. Peter and Paul in Danville.
Due to the restrictions made necessary by the COVID-19 pandemic, both the June 6 and June 13 ceremonies will be by invitation only but will be livestreamed by the Cathedral of Christ the King over Facebook, YouTube and their website.
