New cathedral rector, full-time vocations director among priest assignments
LEXINGTON — Father John Moriarty, pastor of St. Luke's in Nicholasville, will become rector of the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington, succeeding Father Paul Prabell upon his retirement this summer, one of several pastoral assignments recently made by Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv in the Catholic Diocese of Lexington. Father Danny Schwendeman, pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and diocesan vocations director, will become full-time vocations director for the diocese.
Father Charles Howell, pastor of Good Shepherd in Frankfort, will become pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Lexington. Father John Lijana, pastor of Queen of All Saints in Beattyville and Holy Family in Booneville, will become pastor of Good Shepherd in Frankfort. Father Michael Flanagan, pastor of Sts. John and Elizabeth in Grayson and Prince of Peace in West Liberty, will become pastor of St. Michael's in Paintsville, upon the retirement of Father Terence Hoppenjans.
All appointments are effective July 1. They leave St. Luke’s in Nicholasville, Sts. John and Elizabeth in Grayson/Prince of Peace in West Liberty and Queen of All Saints in Beattyville with Holy Family in Booneville as open pastorates.
