Meg Campos Appointed Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Lexington
New agency head brings experience in social outreach, international business and U.S. GovernmentAdapting to current needs, Catholic Charities of Lexington to end adoption program
LEXINGTON — Meg Campos has been appointed executive director of Catholic Charities of Lexington, Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv. of Lexington and Ryan Haley, chair of the Catholic Charities board of directors, announced July 12. Campos has served as interim director of the agency since October and served from 2016-2020 as director of social outreach for Lexington’s Cathedral of Christ the King.
Said Bishop Stowe and Haley:
“Meg Campos brings the right combination of skills and experience to lead Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Lexington into the next phase of its essential mission of serving the poor and marginalized. Her service at Christ the King exemplifies her commitment to helping those in need and finding innovative, community-centered ways to do so.
“The agency she inherits faces a time of transition, where changing social trends — including a reduction in the number of mothers voluntarily placing their infants for adoption — have prompted major decisions in recent weeks. First and foremost, Catholic Charities of Lexington will no longer provide adoption services. This program was terminated by the board of directors when the Commonwealth of Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family services notified the agency that the child placing agency’s license would be revoked for not having a qualified executive director in place for these services.
“While this move is a source of sadness for so many who associate adoptions with the mission and legacy of Catholic Charities, it does not change the Church’s commitment to protecting human life from its earliest stages or to accompanying women facing difficult circumstances. Committed to the responsible stewardship of the resources entrusted to Catholic Charities by the generosity of our donors and benefactors, it is necessary for the agency to find new ways to meet the most urgent needs of the poor in Central and Eastern Kentucky, a challenge Meg Campos has the vision and leadership to meet.”
A graduate of the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a master’s degree in diplomacy and international commerce, Campos worked on international trade policy with Latin America for the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C.
