Covington Restaurateur, Oktoberfest Staple, Mick Noll Has Died
Fr. Dan's brother's son, Ludwig Noll, said that a Mass will be held for Mick Noll on Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church in Crescent Springs at 5 p.m. at Saint Joseph Parish, 2470 Lorraine Court, Crescent Springs, KY 41017 859-341-6609
He was a familiar face at every Oktoberfest ever hosted in Covington and a pioneer in downtown development in the city.
Noll, 74, operated restaurants in Covington since the mid-1970's, after returning from a five-year period spent with the Peace Corps, according to a 2000 profile in the Cincinnati Enquirer. He operated the Bavarian Tap Room in the Bavarian Brewery Building, and then Mick Noll's Covington Haus in the former fire station on Sixth Street that was most recently known as Tickets Sports Cafe.
“It was in the restaurants that I started getting interested in our German heritage. I started bringing in Bavarian bands and beers, then German cuisine,” Noll told the Enquirer at the time.
His booth at Oktoberfest could be found each year at the corner of Sixth & Philadelphia Streets, where items like goetta balls and super bratwursts could be had.
In the 2000 article, Noll told the Enquirer that at Oktoberfest, he would always, "Give someone a hug, drink a cold beer and eat a brat with horseradish. No kraut."
