Isaiah of Jerusalem stand as the foremost of the Hebrew prophets for many bible readers. His lengthy craeer during multiple kingships is a ministry like few others. As a member of the political and religious elite, he stands as a solitary figure (somewhat like our Pope Francis) who absolutly knows that the Hebrew society is going to fall apart and that nothing can be done about it.
Spiritual Reflection: See out own life stages in the three books of Isaiah
First Isaiah - written prior to the captivity when prosperous, Israel is still master of its own country, but the fabric of society is starting to break down and trouble is brewing on the horizon.
Second Isaiah - The captivity: life as they knew it has ended. Wealth is gone, families are fractured, there is no control of one's future. You have nothing that others want.
Third Isaiah - Cyrus has captured Babylon; the Hebrews return to Judeo - overgrown and wild. Spirits are broken; they have to start over but they are weary and tired. Who is there to welcome them back? The remnant people left behind and the Samaritans who resent their return.
